I want to go

WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON A LIVING WATER TRIP?

Here are some of the activities you might experience!

Borehole Construction

Under the direction of our local staff, operate a drill rig, flush and develop the well, construct a concrete slab, and install a handpump. Occasionally this process may take longer than a week depending on the complexity of the project.

Existing Water Source Visit and Assessment

Visit the community's existing water source and understand the current need.

Piped Water System Construction

Piped systems vary by country and community, but generally involve installing a submersible pump to an existing well or water source and distributing safe water through pipes to water kiosks, tap stands, handwashing stations, latrines, and even directly into houses. One piped system can reach up to 5,000 people- the equivalent of 20 hand pumps!

Rehab and Repair Existing Water Points

Occasionally wells, hand pumps, and piped systems break down over time. Visit an existing project to restore water access through rehab and repair.

Water Quality Testing

We accomplish long-term safe water access is through a series of tests to determine if the systems’ water is free from contamination and safe for our global neighbors to use for all their daily needs. Through this process, community members can be confident knowing that the water they drink will not make them sick.

Hygiene and Sanitation Lessons

Living Water Trip team members will lead and participate in engaging lessons that use stories from the Bible to teach communities about the importance of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene practices, empowering them to improve their health and raise their quality of life.

WASH Trainings with Church and Community

Living Water Trip team members promote a holistic approach to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) by working with communities on activities like handwashing, proper water storage, and using latrines. These efforts improve sanitation practices, leading to a better quality of life. Education and participation drive positive changes in health, school achievement, and productivity.

Bible Storying Workshops

An orality Bible storying lesson is a creative and interactive way to share and teach stories from the Bible using spoken words, gestures, and visual aids, making it engaging and easy to remember for everyone involved.

Devotions with Church Leaders

Participate in daily devotions with local church and community leaders, Living Water staff, and your trip teammates.

Living Water currently works along the Pacific coast of Guatemala. Team members will use an LS300 or a LS400 drill rig with our in-country drillers and help our hygiene team share proper sanitation techniques and Bible stories. You’ll get to experience the rich Guatemalan culture in Antigua, including a coffee plantation tour and Cerro de la Cruz—a beautiful cross set on a hill.
