For this month's CONNECTION:
- Listen to an audio reading from Zimbabwe
- Reflect on the story through prayer and discussion on your own, with your family, or church community
While artistic license has been taken, the characters and events in this audio reading are based on a real story of impact depicted by Living Water Zimbabwe colleagues in February 2020.
REFLECTION
Read the scripture passage, pray, and reflect on the story on your own or with a group.
PRAYER
READ: “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” John 12:24, NIV
PRAY: These words aren’t easy, Lord, but I see the truth in them. I invite you to reveal anything in my life that needs to be let go of and laid to rest. Thank you that when we give things over to you, even good things, you have much greater plans in store than anything we could ever imagine.
Help me to take on a selfless and sacrificial heart, to hold loosely to my possessions, my time, and my comforts, so that I can better demonstrate your love to others around the world who are in need.
DISCUSSION
- The woman in this story was asked to give something up that was very dear to her. Has God ever asked you to give something up? What was the outcome?
- Jesus was speaking to his disciples about his upcoming death in John 12:24. Take some time to consider how Jesus died both physically and metaphorically, and the fruit that came from it.
