Just ask Shalom and his classmates from Rwanda’s Nyabubare Primary School. For them, education had always been limited by the water crisis.
One year, everything changed. A piped water system was installed on campus. Now, students show up healthy and ready to learn. Food is grown in the school garden and prepared safely, so no child goes hungry. Girls have what they need to manage their periods at school, so missing class every month is no longer their reality. And the school budget, once drained by water costs, is spent on technology, resources, and students’ futures.
For 11-year-old Shalom, this looked like going from 20th to 5th in his class in just one year. Same student. Same school. The only difference? Safe water entered the classroom.
