Families in El Caimito, Nicaragua, now have sustainable access to clean water! Residents say that their community is now more inclusive as women have taken on leadership roles. Motivated by the need to have access to drinking water in their community and the power of God in their lives, the women of El Caimito will have transformed lives for generations to come when they bravely took on their water crisis!

REFLECTION

Read the scripture passage, pray for the people of El Caimito, and reflect on their story on your own or with a group.

PRAYER

READ: “She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.” – Proverbs 31:16-17, NIV

PRAY: We pray for the women around the world who have limited opportunity because of the global water crisis. But, we thank you for instilling strength, wisdom, and faithfulness into women everywhere to be agents of change for themselves, their families, friends, and neighbors. Amen.

DISCUSSION

  1. Out loud, give thanks for the women – mothers, daughters, aunts, friends, and mentors – who have made an impact in your life.
  2. In developing countries, women and young girls are often the caretakers for their household. Discuss how the water crisis disproportionately affects women in their time, energy, education, employment, and futures.
  3. Challenge: Women walk on average 3.7 miles every day in search of water, often water that’s unsafe to drink.
    • Walk 3.7 miles today, either outside or at the gym. While walking, pray for the women who make the trek each day as they risk dangerous conditions and attacks from wildlife or other people. Pray for their safety and that one day, their long walk for water will come to an end.
