My Trip to Cap Haitian

It all started when ... I had seen the well display at our church before and thought to myself, "Wow, now that is something I would love to do." I asked about the upcoming trip to Haiti and a leader from my church told me there was one spot left, so I prayed and went for it.

I enjoyed getting to know ... The kids and people in the community, the Living Water staff, and more about the members of my own team.

Things that challenged and changed me ... The list is long but here are a few: I was challenged to see the vivid contrast between life in the U.S. and life in Haiti. We take so much for granted, and we waste so many resources such as water in our society. I was challenged to see so many needs that we could not meet, and wanting to do more. I think I will be more conscious of things I can do to conserve resources and live a more simple lifestyle. I also hope to help others break away from the self-centered lifestyle our media tries to impose on us by sharing what I experienced.

I will never forget ... The people, the weather, the women gathering water in buckets to carry home, the beautiful smiling children, the lack of infrastructure, and how joyful the church there was despite not even having a real building. We could learn a lot from the people of Haiti.
