Every day, 1 in 5 children wake up to a reality without safe water.
Some children have access to water, but it’s not safe to drink. Other children, mostly young girls, walk for miles in search of the life-giving resource, only to find there isn’t enough for their basic needs. During this long walk for water, girls are more vulnerable to being physically attacked or sexually assaulted.
Because of this, 1 in 5 children have their futures stolen from them. They are too uncomfortable at school with unsafe sanitation facilities or too burdened from exhaustion after long, dangerous walks for water to focus in class. They become too sick from waterborne illnesses to dream about their futures.
When children aren’t granted access to the safe water that they deserve, their hopes and means for a brighter future are lost.
At Living Water International, we understand the importance of ensuring that children around the world have access safe water — the foundation on which vibrant futures are built. Throughout 18 countries in Africa, South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, children thrive every day with new water systems, stay healthy because of safe hygiene behaviors, are treated with proper dignity with improved sanitation facilities, and are given the greatest news of all – that they are deeply loved by God.
When children are provided with these fundamental resources, their futures begin to transform. They are free to think big and finally look beyond the struggles of the water crisis. Generations of children to come are impacted.
