Guest Post: Your Celebration Matters

Thank you . . . and you’re not crazy. That’s an odd statement for a Living Water International board member to lead with, I know, but let me explain. My name is Greg Holder, lead pastor of The Crossing, and it’s been my privilege to watch God do something extraordinary for the thirsty through Advent Conspiracy (AC) over the past several years.

AC started with just a handful of us, but it has become a global movement that involves thousands of churches and organizations on several continents as together we’ve decided to celebrate Christmas differently.

I say “differently,” but really, this “conspiracy” makes a lot of sense and takes us back to the original Christmas story. If you’ve been around Living Water for long, you know the basic tenets of AC: worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all.

And since some of you have been participating for a while now, I thought it might be a good time to remind you of one simple but powerful truth: what you’re doing matters. By taking even a slightly different approach to gift giving—it matters. And, of course, the conscious choice to celebrate the birth of Jesus by serving and loving those he would later call the ‘least of these’ matters.

The courage of Living Water’s teams in places like Sierra Leone, India, and El Salvador defies description. When wells are dug in Zimbabwe, a concerted effort is being made to resource and mobilize local churches, and the story becomes so much bigger than we can imagine. The kingdom is advanced and a legacy is being built. People you may never meet this side of heaven are being loved and served in the name of our Savior, Jesus.

So, thank you.

And . . . you’re not crazy. You’re not crazy for caring this much or celebrating Christmas a little bit differently. You’re not crazy for investing in Living Water this Advent season. You’re not crazy for inviting others into this little conspiracy of ours.

What a glorious thing God is doing. Thanks for being a part of it.
